Sports was at center stage Wednesday night when NBC ‘Tonight Show’ host Jay Leno delivered his monologue.

Here’s what he had to say about the again-retired Brett Favre:

Another aging jet has been grounded. Brett Favre. Did you hear about this? Brett Favre announced that he is retiring -- again! How many times is this? This guy has been retired more times than Cher. Of course, New York Jets fans are already convinced he retired in the middle of the season.

Leno also took a shot at Alex Rodriguez:

After his interview on ESPN, A-Rod got over 5,000 text messages of support saying he had done nothing wrong. All were from Roger Clemens. [spelling corrected at 5:32 p.m.] Michael Phelps has lost some endorsement deals for admitting that he smoked marijuana. I don’t think that’s fair. After Alex Rodriguez admitted that he cheated, he didn’t lose any endorsements. Nobody canceled him. So, apparently, drugs that get you onto a box of Wheaties are okay, but drugs that make you eat a box of Wheaties, that’s not ok.’

For the record, Phelps’ cereal deal was with Kellogg Co.’s Corn Flakes, not General Mills’ Wheaties.
