First, right winger Corey Perry scored 2:03 into the first period to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Then he provided the assist to Bobby Ryan, who scored at 5:19 for a 2-1 edge.
In between those two goals, Kings left winger Ryan Smyth scored on a power play at 3:50 after Ducks defenseman Luca Sbisa picked up a two-minute penalty for tripping. Smyth came close to a scoring opportunity earlier in the period, but referees nullified the apparent goal and gave him a two-minute penalty for interfering with goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
Giguere, who is fighting for the starting spot with scratched Jonas Hiller, had 13 saves in the first period. Kings goalie Erik Ersberg had five saves.
A Kings club official said center Jarret Stoll and right winger Justin Williams were scratched to get a rest after they both played Saturday in an exhibition against the Colorado Avalanche in Las Vegas.
