The Angels confirmed Thursday afternoon that they have signed 35-year-old Japanese pitcher Hisanori Takahashi, a versatile left-hander who pitched out of the rotation and the bullpen for the New York Mets last season, to a two-year contract.
The Angels have been searching for a veteran left-hander to replace Darren Oliver, who left Anaheim to pitch for the Texas Rangers last season.
Takahashi spent 10 seasons in Japan, most as a starter, and one with the Mets, going 10-6 with a 3.61 earned-run average. He also went eight for eight in save opportunities after closer Francisco Rodriguez was injured late in the season.
