Dallas Rutherford played well in the high-profile Torrey Pines tournament last week. So well, in fact, that he caught the attention of several NCAA Division I recruiters. Don’t be surprised to see other scouts follow suit if the senior from Campbell Hall puts forth a similar effort in the Gatorade Timberwolves Shootout this weekend in Minneapolis.
The Vikings, No. 7 in The Times’ preseason rankings, play Minnetonka on Saturday at the Target Center in one of the more highly anticipated games of the day-long showcase. Rutherford is averaging 15 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.6 steals a game heading into the showdown against the undefeated Skippers, No. 3 in all of Minnesota, according to MaxPreps.com.
Rutherford has been on the radar of recruiting services such as Rivals.com and Scout.com for a while now. Programs like Arizona St. and Illinois have expressed interest and New Mexico St. and Pepperdine are in the mix as well. No official offers have been made, but that could change if Rutherford’s play continues to open eyes.
