Girls’ water polo: Riverside Poly finishes on top of Five Counties

We now know which is the best girls’ water polo team in the Inland Empire.

Riverside Poly defeated host Murrieta Valley, 9-8, in the final of the Five Counties tournament Saturday. Murrieta Valley is the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division V, and the Bears are No. 1 in Division III.

Sounds as if neither team was willing to get dunked easily. Riverside Poly had a particularly difficult uphill battle in the fourth quarter, overcoming five man-advantage situations.

Jayme Pekarske, Alyssa Goldie and Jesse Cardey were named to the all-tournament team for Riverside Poly. Wendy Nicklaus and Torrey Kylander for Murrieta Valley.
