A federal judge ruled that the health of Jack M. Catain is too frail to permit him to stand trial in a counterfeiting case. U.S. District Judge William P. Gray ruled that Catain, 54, would run a “remote risk” of having a heart attack if subjected to the stress of a trial on charges that he sold $1.5 million in counterfeit money to an undercover federal agent. He found Catain “medically incapable of withstanding the rigors of a trial.” U.S. Department of Justice Strike Force Attorney Bruce Kelton said the ruling put the whole case “in limbo.” He said new motions may be filed as early as next week.
