Nearly every fisherman has imagines what it must feel like to break a world record. But Lenn Kastan of Moorpark may be the only guy around who can tell you what it feels like to tie a world record.
Kastan, fishing out of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Wednesday on a hotel boat, the Juanita 7, caught a 916-pound blue marlin on 80-pound test line. The listed world record for a blue on 80-pound: 916 pounds. Kastan caught the fish 20 miles northwest of Cabo San Lucas.
Kastan’s fish first weighed 918 1/2 pounds on a dock scale, then 916 on a certified scale. It was the largest blue caught near Cabo San Lucas in recent years.
