UCI’s Barham Gets Tournament Victory

UC Irvine’s Julian Barham defeated teammate Darren Yates Friday, 6-4, 6-4, in a consolation-bracket quarterfinal match of a collegiate invitational tennis tournament at the La Quinta Hotel in Palm Springs.

Barham will play Pepperdine’s Robbie Weiss in the consolation semifinals today.

In another consolation quarterfinal match, USC’s John Carras defeated UCI’s Bruce Man Son Hing, 6-1, 7-6.

In doubles action, Barham and Yates defeated Weiss and Craig Johnson of Pepperdine in a second-round match, 6-3, 7-6, but lost to USC’s Rick Leach and Tim Pawsat, 7-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.
