Providers of Affordable Housing Cited by Board

For the fourth consecutive year, the San Diego Housing commission is honoring individuals and companies that “have made outstanding contributions to expanding affordable housing opportunities and improving housing quality” in San Diego.
In the housing finance category, the award goes to John Tillepaugh, Dave Smith and Victor Lee for tailoring a financing package to permit construction of the Nobel Terrace rental project by the Mayer Group in University City.
In the housing development category, the award goes to Baker/Walsh Partnership for financing and developing 200 rental units in 17 scattered sites. Richard Yerger Inc. was honored in the housing construction category for developing 120 rental units at University Canyon.
The Solarsmith Co. was cited in the housing innovation category for saving energy and reducing heating costs for tenants of 180 low-income rental units on four sites. Charles Jackson, a realtor, was cited in the housing rehabilitation category for renovating a seven-unit rental building in a declining neighborhood.
In the community service category, the winner was Ruth Stewart, chairwoman of the Task Force on the Downtown Homeless. In the seventh and final category, partner of the year, Collins Development Co. and the housing commission were honored for developing University Canyon, with 120 low-income rental units and 332 condominiums.
