Builder of Palms Project Coins New Word to Describe Homes

A new word has been coined for a nine-unit residential project opening today in the Palms area of Los Angeles.

Instead of condominiums, the units are being called resi-miniums.

Jerome Shamrock, whose Jerome Shamrock & Associates is architect/builder, explained:

“The word condominium too often conjures visions of box-like rooms and apartment-style living.” A resi-minium includes the kind of features “more often found,” he said, “in residential homes.”

Known as Rose Arbor Resi-miniums, the two-bedroom, two-bath units have wood-burning fireplaces with solid timber mantles, coffered ceilings, air conditioning and solar hot-water systems. The monthly homeowners fee is $126.48, and occupancy is scheduled at close of escrow.

Priced from $156,000 to $171,900, the homes are available in 1,200- to 1,400-square-foot plans. The building is on a tree-lined street, and there are double common walls for maximum sound insulation.

The units are open Saturday through Wednesday, noon to 5 p.m., at 10866 Rose Ave.
