Juniors, Sophomores Dominate All-Southeast Basketball Team

Underclassmen dominated The Times’ All-Southeast girls basketball team.
Coaches and sportswriters selected three sophomores--Trish Gibson of La Mirada, Donna Pollema of Valley Christian and Cindy Vyskocil of Whittier Christian, and four juniors--Maribel Arenas of Montebello, Julie King of Gahr, Shelley Schack of Artesia and Sharon Wada of La Mirada. Completing the team are seniors Monica Navarro of St. Matthias, Vera Sunada of Schurr and Julie Yoshitake of Montebello.
The All-Southeast team is one of 10 from circulation areas that will be honored at The Times’ annual prep basketball awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Times Mirror Building in downtown Los Angeles. Cal State Long Beach Coach Joan Bonvicini is scheduled to be the guest speaker.
A player of the year and coach of the year will be announced at the ceremony.
