Garden Grove : School District Gets New Insurance Policy

The Board of Education has approved a substitute liability insurance policy to replace one that was recently canceled by Twin City Fire Insurance, but the new policy is three times more expensive.
The Garden Grove Unified School District was forced to pay $158,305 for the one-year policy, which covers all liability from $100,000 to $10 million, said Elmer Clute, the district’s assistant superintendent for business services. The district would be responsible for the first $100,000, he said.
The old policy, canceled Tuesday because of the potentially high cost to insurers for covering school districts and local governments, cost the district $61,200 with coverage from $100,000 to $20 million.
The district is now insured by Transcontinental Insurance up to $500,000, Constitution State up to $1 million and the remainder with Great American Surplus, Clute said.
