College Softball : Top-Ranked Cal State Fullerton Splits

Top-ranked Cal State Fullerton salvaged a split of its nonconference doubleheader against third-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Friday night by winning the nightcap, 3-0, at Fullerton.
The Titans lost the opener, 1-0, as the Broncos’ Rhonda Wheatley pitched a one-hitter.
In the second game, Fullerton’s Debbie Mygind (24-3) threw a one-hitter and outpitched Wheatley (41-11). Robin Goodin knocked in the Titans’ first run with a single in the second inning. In the fifth, Joann Ferrieri doubled in a run and Terri Oberg singled home Ferrieri to make it 3-0.
In Sacramento State Tournament action:
Cal State Northridge 1, Chapman 0--Kathy Slaten pitched a two-hitter as Northridge beat its California Collegiate Athletic Assn. rival in a semifinal game.
In South Coast Conference action:
Santa Ana 4, Orange Coast 2--The Dons (10-2, 33-2) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Pirates at Costa Mesa.
Patty Felker’s solo home run in the fifth inning cut Orange Coast’s lead to 2-1. In the sixth inning, Lesa Godfrey hit a two-run home run to give Santa Ana a 3-2 lead. The home run was Godfrey’s sixth of the year to set a school record.
Chris Makimoto pitched a complete game and allowed no earned runs in improving her record to 15-1.
