Olympic champions Carl Lewis and Joaquim Cruz have withdrawn from Saturday’s ARCO-Coliseum track and field meet.
Lewis, who was expected to try for the world 200-meter record, has a sore hamstring in his right leg. The injury was incurred while he was long-jumping May 18 at UCLA.
Cruz, the Brazilian gold medalist in the 800 meters at the Summer Olympics, said he was tired from several weeks of competition. He was scheduled to run in the 800 Saturday.
Olympian Earl Jones, another half-miler, also withdrew from the meet because of fatigue. Stanley Redwine, with a best time of 1 minute 44.87 seconds, was added to the 800 field.
