“We’ve closed the door on a turbulent period . . . and entered a new era of labor stability,” Nikolas Patsaouras, president of the Southern California Rapid Transit District, said after the RTD board ratified a new labor contract with mechanics and maintenance employees. The agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union concluded seven months of negotiations with the RTD’s three major labor unions. It was the first time since 1969 that the RTD had negotiated new pacts without a strike. The mechanics and maintenance workers, along with RTD bus drivers and clerks, will receive a 4.5% increase in wages and benefits.
