PARIS — A captain belonging to France’s observer force in Lebanon was killed in Beirut in “unclear circumstances” Monday, the French Defense Ministry said.
The death of Jean-Pierre Feyrignac was the sixth among the 60-member French observer force in Lebanon, which is supposed to monitor a cease-fire in the Lebanese capital.
Set up in March, 1984, after the withdrawal of French troops in the multinational peacekeeping force, the French observers man posts along the line dividing Christian East Beirut and Muslim West Beirut.
