Some downtown Los Angeles streets will be closed this morning for a parade honoring the National Basketball Assn. champion Lakers.
The procession of the players and coaches will begin at 11 a.m. at the corner of 9th Street and Broadway and will travel up Broadway to First Street, where it will turn east and head to Main Street and the south lawn of City Hall, where a rally will be held.
The parade will be televised live by Channel 9 and Channel 2.
A half-hour before the parade begins, Broadway will be closed between 9th and 1st streets. The numbered streets intersecting Broadway also will be closed, but will reopen after the parade passes. Broadway also will gradually reopen.
As the parade passes 3rd Street and Broadway, 1st Street will be closed from Broadway to Main Street and will remain closed until the parade participants reach City Hall.
The rally, at which Laker broadcaster Chick Hearn will be the master of ceremonies, is scheduled to last from noon until 1 p.m.--unless it goes into overtime.
Another rally is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Forum parking lot.
