Florida Gov. Bob Graham said in Tallahassee that he will seek a quick clemency hearing for a 75-year-old man sentenced to life in prison for killing his terminally ill wife in what he called an act of love and mercy. Roswell Gilbert of Fort Lauderdale was convicted of first-degree murder on May 9 after he admitted killing his wife, Emily, 73, with two gunshots to the head. Gilbert told the jury that he killed his wife as “an act of love . . . to end her suffering” from Alzheimer’s disease.
