BELGRADE, Yugoslavia — Barica Saraga wanted to watch “Love Story” on television. Her husband, Franjo, wanted to watch a panel discussion about a bloody soccer riot in Belgium.
When his wife switched the channel to see the American movie last Wednesday evening, Saraja grabbed her by the neck and choked her to death, according to police quoted Sunday in the Belgrade daily newspaper, Politika.
It reported that Saraga, 56, gave himself up to police, saying he had been drinking before he attacked his 45-year-old wife.
The newspaper said Saraga had wanted to watch a discussion about the riot between British and Italian fans at the May 29 European Cup of Champions final soccer match in Brussels, Belgium, in which 38 people were killed and 454 were injured.
