The city will spend nearly $177,000 for new fare boxes and a validating system for Torrance Transit System buses. City officials said jammed fare boxes are the biggest single cause for removing buses from service. . . . The city has received a $247,500 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for a study of airport noise and its effect on residents. . . . The city’s Private Industry Council has signed a $25,000 contract with La Petite Boulangerie of Carson and a $10,000 contract with Straw Hat Pizza of Torrance to train 30 prospective employees.
