Builders here soon will be required to install automatic fire-sprinkler systems in garages with living quarters above them, Planning Director Jeff Shaw said. Under an ordinance approved by the City Council, all new dwelling units constructed above garages must have the sprinklers.
The ordinance will affect about 15 units a year, Shaw estimated. He said it came about because of concern over flammable materials commonly stored in garages.
