LONDON — American Thomas Greene set a world record today by downing 2.2 pounds of snails in two minutes.
At a showdown in a restaurant in London’s West End, Greene, from Maryland, beat former champion Peter Dowdeswell of Britain, who had previously eaten the same quantity in three minutes.
Dowdeswell, who holds 243 world eating records, including that for Scottish haggis, said this may have been his last attempt at a title because doctors had warned him he risked eating himself to death.
