Marine Arrested in Rape Case: A 20-year-old Marine was arrested Sunday in Irvine on suspicion of trying to rape a Huntington Beach woman, police said. Detective Al Murray said the 21-year-old woman was walking west on Trabuco Road near Remington about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a man, unknown to her, forced her into a nearby flood control channel. Murray said that the man attempted to rape the woman but that she was able to flee. A passing motorist gave her a ride, and she called police. Based on her description of the attacker, Officer Victor Quiros, who was cruising the area, arrested Cpl. Jonathan Jay at Yale Avenue near Trabuco Road. Jay, stationed at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, was booked into the Orange County Jail in Santa Ana in lieu of $25,000 bond. Murray said the victim suffered abrasions and bruises but did not require hospitalization.
