“Over the years, teen idols have evolved from wholesome Pat Boone . . . to today’s surly Billy Idol.”
This kind of slanted, untrue article (“Teenzine, A Loss of Innocence,” by Pat H. Broeske and Cheryl A. Latuner, Aug. 25) sends parents running in panic.
We have not evolved from total innocence to complete decadence. I doubt if an interview with Billy Idol is much different than the “intimate interviews” with rock stars that have been printed for the last 20 years.
We have not changed that much even though it makes for a much more dramatic article to say that we have.
Ignorance begets fear and this article promotes both. “Parents, be alert”--your kids aren’t much different than you were.
