The Philadelphia Phillies announced that Steve Carlton will not pitch for the rest of the season because of a strained rotator cuff.
The four-time Cy Young Award winner met with team physicians Wednesday, and it was decided he should not pitch until spring training.
Carlton, who was on the disabled list from June 22 until Sept. 2, has a record of 1-8 this year. He has a 314-215 lifetime record.
