Undaunted by gloomy predictions from top congressional leaders, President Reagan remains “strongly committed” to passage of a tax reform bill by the end of the year, the White House said today. White House spokesman Edward P. Djerejian said Reagan believes that “it is both possible and very important for the Senate to join the House in completing their work on a tax bill this year. We think there’s plenty of time.” House Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr. (D-Mass.) and Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.), have agreed that there is insufficient time for a bill to clear the House and the Senate.
