San Clemente : Officer Fired as Result of Shooting; Appeal Due

A San Clemente police officer who was wounded in an off-duty shooting incident in Santa Ana has been fired but remains on thepayroll pending an administrative appeal.
Officer Ronald Garcia, 27, was wounded in the right leg and buttocks Aug. 8 while being chased by the husband of a woman he had been visiting.
Garcia, who fired back at his assailant, has not returned to duty since the incident, according to City Manger Jim Hendrickson. A hearing officer will hear the appeal and issue a report to Hendrickson within 30 days for a final decision.
