A Stanford student’s experiment on how plants grow in a gravity-free environment will be conducted aboard the space shuttle Columbia next week during its orbit around Earth. Chia-Lien Wang, 21, a senior studying human biology, said she hopes the experiment with corn seeds will demonstrate the ability of plants to develop in space. The experiment is scheduled to begin on Dec. 18 when the shuttle blasts off.
