Kemp Tells Jury She Seeks Reform, Not Money

Jan Kemp, former University of Georgia instructor who claims she was fired for protesting preferential treatment of student athletes, told a federal jury in Atlanta Thursday that she would accept damages as low as $1 “as long as the university was cleaned up.”

Kemp, whose lawsuit against two university officials is being tried in U.S. District Court, was on the witness stand as a rebuttal witness after the defense rested its case Wednesday.

Kemp denied that she protested preferential treatment of athletes in order to build a case against the school after learning of plans to dismiss her.

“That’s a bald-faced lie,” she said. “Money never was my primary motivation. The principles involved are far more important.”
