Quake Hits S. Carolina, Georgia

PICKENS, S.C. — A small earthquake rumbled “like distant thunder” through the hills in the northern corners of South Carolina and Georgia today but caused no reported injury or damage.
The tremor began around 6:36 a.m. and lasted two or three seconds, said Walt Purcell, director of the Oconee County Emergency Preparedness Division. Scientists for the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colo., said the quake measured 3.5 on the Richter scale.
