San Diego State’s Deron Johnson scored Wednesday on an eighth-inning sacrifice fly by freshman third baseman Nick Riesgo to give the Aztecs a 3-2 nonconference win over visiting UC Riverside.
Right-hander Mike Erb recorded his second win of the season in as many starts. Erb, a sophomore from Madison High School, struck out 10 batters and allowed only five hits. He retired 16 of the last 18 men he faced. Erb had to be good, however, because Riverside’s Ron Moore (1-1) struck out 11 Aztecs and surrendered just six hits.
Outfielder Tom Levasseur paced the San Diego State offense, going 3 for 4. Riverside’s Dave Finley was 2 for 4. San Diego State is 2-2. Riverside is 3-2.
