Troyanovsky Kremlin’s Ambassador to China

MOSCOW — Oleg A. Troyanovsky, former Soviet ambassador to the United Nations, has been named Soviet ambassador to China.
The appointment, announced Thursday by the official news agency Tass, had been expected since the March 14 announcement he would be leaving the U.N. post.
He will replace Ilya S. Shcherbakov, who is retiring, Tass said.
Troyanovsky, 67, made a name for himself in the 1950s and early 1960s as special diplomatic aide and interpreter for Soviet leader Nikita S. Khrushchev.
