Man Son Hing and UC Irvine Beat BYU

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team, ranked 17th nationally, defeated Brigham Young University Thursday, 7-2, in a nonconference match at Irvine.
No. 1 singles player Bruce Man Son Hing improved his record to 27-9 by defeating BYU’s Robert-Jan Beirens, 6-4, 6-3. Teammate Darren Yates beat Greg Hayward, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.
In doubles play, Man Son Hing teamed with Yates to defeat Beirens and Hayward, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Anteaters improved their record to 13-8. The Cougars are 8-12.
Irvine plays UC Santa Barbara Sunday at noon in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. match at Park Newport.
