Two other California horses, Zambaleta and Tasso, could end up sharing favorite status for today’s $312,000 Gotham Mile at Aqueduct.
Tasso won the 1985 2-year-old colt championship by winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Aqueduct last November. After a winter vacation on the West Coast, Tasso returned to Aqueduct with trainer Neil Drysdale and opened his Derby prep campaign with a 3-length victory in the Manassa Mauler Stakes.
Zambaleta arrived at Aqueduct a couple of weeks later and scored a 4 1/2-length victory in a division of the split Bay Shore Stakes.
