ST. GEORGE'S, Bermuda — Lone yachtsman Dodge Morgan today completed a 150-day voyage around the world in his 60-foot cutter American Promise, breaking a world circumnavigation record that had stood for 15 years.
His 27,000-mile marathon journey ended at 12:19 p.m. as his vessel crossed the designated finish line five miles off Bermuda’s eastern tip. The 54-year-old businessman from Cape Elizabeth, Me., fired off a flare in triumph. His time of 150 days, 1 hour and 6 minutes for the solo non-stop circumnavigation smashed the 15-year-old record of 292 days set by Chay Blyth of England.
