Lee Roy Murphy scored a ninth-round knockout win over fellow American Dorcey Gaymon in San Remo, Italy, to retain his International Boxing Federation cruiserweight title.
Murphy, 27, of Chicago, ended the bout with a swollen left eye but said he already was thinking of the next title defense, possibly against rising Italian star Angelo Rottoli.
It was the unbeaten Murphy’s 21st knockout in 24 wins. Gaymon, of Jacksonville, Fla., is 15-4-1.
