Britain’s BL PLC decided not to sell three divisions.

The state-owned auto maker has shelved plans to sell its profitable Land Rover, Range Rover and Freight Rover divisions to the private sector, Trade and Industry Secretary Paul Channon announced. The move came after General Motors, accusing Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s government of bowing to political pressure, withdrew its bid to buy the jeep-like vehicles, along with BL’s loss-ridden truck division. Channon told Parliament that BL will retain the divisions for another year or two.
