Ceradyne Inc. said first quarter net income was $209,116, a 127% increase from $92,000 in the same period a year earlier.
The Costa Mesa-based high-technology ceramics maker said sales for the quarter totaled $4.5 million, up 45% from $3.1 million.
A company spokesman attributed the gains to continuing expansion of Ceradyne’s business, “particularly in the areas of high technology ceramics for aerospace and defense.”
Ford Motor Co. recently purchased an 11% stake in Ceradyne, which hopes to be producing components for a revolutionary ceramic car engine within five years.
