Teacher Wins King Award: A Garden Grove elementary-school teacher has been named by the California Teachers’ Assn. as one of 10 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship winners statewide, receiving $1,000 to further her career in education. Jennifer Baker, a fourth-grade teacher at Sunnyside Elementary School, has taught with the district for seven years, according to a district announcement. The Santa Ana resident is pursuing a master’s degree. The scholarship program was initiated by the teachers’ association after King’s assassination in 1968 to honor minority teachers who are seeking graduate degrees.
