Behind the one-hit pitching of Susan LeFebvre, the Cal State Fullerton softball team defeated Cal Poly Pomona, 2-0, in the first game of the best-of-three NCAA Division I West Regionals at Titan Field Friday.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when the Titans (51-9-1) scored two runs. Alani Silva’s single with the bases loaded drove home Rina Foster, and Terri Oberg scored on Rhonda Wheatley’s error.
LeFebvre (29-6) struck out four and walked one. The Broncos (36-18-1) managed only a fourth-inning single by shortstop Jenny Moore.
The series continues today with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m. Connie Clark (16-2) will pitch for the top-ranked Titans and Wheatley (31-16-1) will start for the Broncos. If a second game is necessary, it will begin at 3.
