O’Reilly Misses Kilometer Mark by One Second

Rory O’Reilly, U.S. National Champion and a member of the 1984 Olympic team, tried to break the track record for the kilometer in a guest ride, highlighting the Bob Enright Classic at the Encino Velodrome, Saturday.
The existing record, 1:09.6 set in 1968 by Jack Simes, still stands. O’Reilly’s efforts got him a 1:10.6.
In racing action, in the senior men’s category, Jay Woolwine of Escondido won the 1000-meter sprints. Bill Drysdale, Huntington Beach, was second, followed by Mike Myles of San Diego.
Richard Clark of Redondo Beach won the 750-meter scratch race.
