Mexico Destroys Fields of Poppies, Marijuana

MEXICO CITY — The Mexican army in the last month has destroyed more than 3,000 acres of opium poppy plants and 1,000 acres of marijuana in an anti-drug campaign, the Defense Department reported.
It said that 298 people were arrrested on various drug charges, nine clandestine landing strips for small aircraft were destroyed and 1,673 weapons were seized.
