DC Comics has decided to put Superman through some emotional and physical changes in “Man of Steel,” a six-comic series scheduled to debut in late June. Publisher Jenette Kahn said that the series, drawn and scripted by artist John Byrne, will reinterpret events in Superguy’s early life. Byrne also will re-define his physical limitations (an atomic bomb can hurt him) and show “the mental anguish that he goes through because he does not have limitless powers.”
DC claims the series will have the largest print run of any comic magazine in the last 20 years--but wouldn’t reveal figures (industry sources say that DC printed more than a million issues of a Batman comic book in the spring/summer of 1966 when TV’s “Batman” was topping the ratings).
