The Houston Astros placed right-hander Nolan Ryan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 1.
The club said Ryan, 39, had injured the medial collateral ligament in his right elbow while pitching against the Montreal Expos on Saturday night. Ryan left that game after the first inning.
