Man Guilty of Slaying Family, May Get Death

SEATTLE — David L. Rice, who bludgeoned to death a prominent Seattle family after bluffing his way into the home with a toy gun on Christmas Eve, was found guilty of aggravated first-degree murder Thursday.
Rice had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the killings of lawyer Charles Goldmark, his wife and their two young sons.
The same jury will meet in a separate penalty phase to determine whether Rice should be sentenced to death or to life in prison. Aggravated first-degree murder is the only crime punishable by death in the state.
