Smyth Wins His Only Race to Move Into Lead of Hobie Championships

LA JOLLA — Randy Smyth won his only race Thursday to move into the lead in the Hobie 17 U.S. Sailing Championships. Smyth, of Huntington Beach, has 3.5 points. Hobie Alter Jr. is second with 4.5 points.
Brian Bell of Del Mar is third with 16 points. Matt Miller of San Diego is 14th with 32 points.
A field of 36 will compete for the championship today.
John Drury is in fourth place with 17 points, and Dick Blount, Carlton Tucker, Dennis McCredie, Bob Seaman, Roger Jenkins and Jeff Alter round out the top 10.
