Printing Error Lets Hundreds Win in Macao’s Lottery

MACAO — Hundreds of lottery players were in luck Tuesday when the Macao government ordered that they all be paid for tickets that carried the same number because of a printing error.
The gambling commission in this Portuguese-run territory on the south China coast told the Instant Lottery Co. to honor about 600 first-prize tickets with a total payout equivalent to $1.9 million. Only one person should have won the first prize of $1,300.
A spokesman for the company said it would discuss the mistake with the British printers of the tickets and their insurers.
