SAN DIEGO — “Tango Argentino,” the dance-oriented musical that was a Broadway hit in 1985, will play for two weeks in October at the Civic Theatre, San Diego Playgoers announced last week.
Playgoers manager Dixie Burton said “Tango” will open in mid-October. In November, Playgoers will present “Pippin,” with Ben Vereen, and in early January, “Singing in the Rain.” Both will be at the Civic Theatre.
Playgoers, the San Diego arm of the Nederlander Organization, which stages plays across the country, opened its first season here in more than a year in May with “Zorba.” Burton said the musical did well, netting more than $800,000 in two weeks. “Legends,” the second in the three-play series, played for one week last month and grossed just under $300,000, she said.
The musical “La Cage aux Folles” will close the Playgoers summer series in a six-day run at the Civic, beginning Aug. 5.
