The City Council has renewed its agreement with an ambulance company to provide paramedic services for another year while the city staff undertakes a study that will explore other options, including the creation of a paramedic program by the Fire Department.
The study, scheduled for completion by September, will compare costs of city paramedics with those of a private contractor and explore means of paying for the service.
Meanwhile, Medevac Inc. of El Monte will continue to provide paramedic ambulance service in the city through next June. The city will pay Medevac $7,903 a month, minus $540 in rent for housing the company’s ambulances.
