WINNER OF KAPELL COMPETITION NAMED

WASHINGTON — Arthur Greene of Sheffield, Mass., has takenthe $15,000 first prize in the William Kapell International Panel Competition at the Kennedy Center.
Greene, 31, won with his performance of rendition of Brahms’ B-flat Piano Concerto, with the National Symphony, under the direction of Julius Rudel.
Nelson Padgett, 26, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and David Allen Wehr, 29, of New York City, tied for second in the competition, sponsored by the University of Maryland.
